Evangelist/Director: Tom Bevard
Tom Bevard realized years ago as he worked in boy's homes and as a jailor that he had a heart to share the gospel with others. Through prayer and over time the Lord called him to reach out even more and he began to hold weekly Bible studies at the Topeka Women’s Facility, and with the support of wife Lucille he formed a group to take outreach events to Kansas Prisons.
Tom felt the Lord had given him the name "Freedom Ministries" for this ministry because the name represents the freedom Jesus gives to everyone, including inmates.
In 1998 Freedom Ministries went to three Kansas prisons and held services with music, ministry, and an outdoor cookout for the inmates, over 200 inmates came forward for salvation.
Then in 2001 Freedom Ministries of Kansas Inc. was given access to every prison in Kansas to hold Christian events. What draws the inmates is the messages Tom and others share about God’s love plus the music Tom and his son Randy play, they know several styles and often have guest singers perform.
Freedom Ministries has also established discipleship programs in several facilities such as at Larned and Hutchinson and volunteers have helped with Bible studies at the Topeka Women’s Facility, these programs are making a difference in the lives of many of the inmates.
Over the years a number of churches and individuals have helped this ministry continue to serve our Kansas inmates with the gospel of salvation through Jesus Christ enabling Tom and volunteers to travel the state with the gospel message each year.
