Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus, How do you think Jesus faced his own torture and death with such resolve?
In his gospel, Luke says that “As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem” Luke 9:51, NIV.
Jesus was determined to face his suffering and death for several reasons. First it was why He was born, the Apostle Peter once wrote this about Jesus, “He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake” 1Peter 1:20, NIV. He was chosen, it was decided, Jesus was born to die for our sins, why, simply put, the grace of God, grace is getting what we do not deserve and can not earn, it is a gift.
Second, it was His earthly destiny to suffer and die and he did it willingly for us. Now I realize I can’t persuade those who have decided not to believe, but to say that Jesus was just an ordinary man, is to ignore the overwhelming and clear evidence of history, his life, his death and his resurrection, none of it is a myth or a lie, it’s too fantastic and history is too clear. What Jesus went through in His suffering should cause us all to at least consider that he did it.
A third reason is because Jesus was obedient to the will and purpose that determined a sacrifice would be made and the reason why it had to be made is because there was no other way for flawed people to be reconciled to our Creator. Luke 22:41-42 “He withdrew about a stone's throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done” NIV.
On Easter Sunday all around the world, Christians will celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, I hope whoever who reads this will consider Jesus’ resolve to suffer and die, because he did it for you.
